CDR Software
CDRWIN - In my humble opinion by far the best CD burning software available. This makes 2 files on your hard drive a CUE file and a Bin file. The best way to backup a CD is to copy it to your hard drive first. This allows for any glitches on the source CD. Cdrwin offers the option of patching as well to bypass the annoying anti-mod protection. Click on the link to download the file. N.B if you are using Windows 2000 you will have to download ASPI drivers these are available on the Nero website.
NERO - This is a very good package. My personal preference for any PC or Audio CD's. It's relatively easy to use and offers a very nice looking GUI. Nero has an abundance of options allowing you to set up the CD exactly how you want it ( I use it to burn my Pictures from my digital camera ). Click on the link to go to the Nero official website.
Clone CD - This is another essential bit of software. If you have a problematic CD that has errors on it then I recommend this package. Also its the only package that makes an exact 1:1 copy of the source. Some people say this gets round the copy protection of PSX CD's. That may be true but I have yet to see it for myself ( playstation CD's are written with special CD burners that write bad sectors to places where normal CD's burners can't write). Click on the link to download the file.
PPF 'O' Matic - This is used in conjunction with Cdrwin to add patches to bypass protection etc. The latest version has a nice little GUI and is very simple to use (Patches are available from the sites listed on my Links page). All you have to do is start it up point it to the CD Bin file then to the Patch *.ppf then press apply. Click on the link to download the file.
Winlock - This easy to use application alters the cue file so that after the bin file is burned the CD will be copy protected. Yet again its run from a nice simple GUI and only takes seconds to protect those precious CD's. Click on the link to download the file.
Gridfix - This piece of software enables you to change the opening License text to whatever is desired allowing everyone to know who copied the CD. It uses a nice little GUI again and although it asks for an *.ISO image it works well with a BIN file. Click on the link to download the file.
Pal4u2K - Want to convert from NTSC to PAL or vice versa then this is the package for you. Its simple to use and produces a P4U file which is patches using the P4U Patch engine. The image of the source CD must be a Bin file. Click on the link to download the file.
Zapper2K - This looks a lot like Pal4u2k and works a lot like it too but it has the added bonus of allowing a backup of the image to be created before u apply the patch. Also the patch engine is built in. Its easy to use and looks good. To check y-pos of a game go to the zapper home page. Click on the link to download the file.
Blind suite - This is a combination of 2 packages: Blind Read & Blind Write both come with an excellent web page with full easy to follow instructions. The package is well presented and relatively easy to use and seems very robust. It doesn't have the ease of use and ability to patch as cdrwin but still I would highly recommend it.
Games Database - This database has a list of psx games and says if they are protected or not and if they are pal/ntsc. Updated database from 24/12/00 click here
PSX Copy - This is a very good application. Its reliable and fast. The GUI looks good and it is very easy to use. The only thing I don't like about it is that everything is set in stone by that I mean you can't alter any of the settings so if they don't work....tough.
Disc Juggler - By far the largest of all the burning software (a whacking 9.3MB download). Its good but weighed up against the size of the file I wouldn't go out of my way to get it. Although it does look good and works very well.
Game Shark CD - Not really CDR software but a useful CD anyway. Just download the zip file, extract and burn using Cdrwin. The you can cheat or type in anti-mod codes.
PSX1 Utility Disk - Not for use with the playstation 2 so calm down. This disc allows u to change from ntsc to pal and vice versa. Also tries to bypass protection. All in all a very useful bit of kit. Same again download zip and burn with cdrwin.
